Letter Project Reflection

Final
1)To get to the final piece of my letter project, I first started had to choose a letter that I wanted to design. After I decided on my letter, which was the letter S, I had to brainstorm and create 20 thumbnail sketches with the letter S. But before that Ms. Lee showed the class a power-point on some possible examples of what different artists did with letters, so that helped us get an idea of what was expected of us. After the 20 thumbnail sketches were done we showed our class mates our drawings and they put hearts next to the drawing they thought we should continue developing and make it our final and a star next to the drawing that they liked.  Next we choose two of the sketches that we liked the best and made a draft of possible sketches that we might do for our final, then when that was done we decided from the two which one we were going to stick with and further develop. After that I got a mirror and wrote an S on it with Lipstick and I kissed corners of the mirror with the lipstick. I took multiple photos, some where me taking the picture with my phone pointing to the mirror and some other pictures were taken by some of my classmates at various angels and I was putting the lipstick on. After that I choose the photo that I liked the most and with an app on my phone I made the whole photo black and white and  the app allows me to restore some of the color back, so I restored the S and the lip prints that I made with the lipstick and I also blurred out my face a bit in the photo so the letter can stand out more. And that was the process I took to get to my final letter project. I feel like the process was helpful because during the whole process I was always able to better my project weather it was getting feedback from my class mates or having my class mates help me take pictures and suggests certain things to better my project.

2) I arrived to my concept for my letter project because I love  the idea of writing with lipstick on the mirror because it's a little sexy, and also I love lipstick so I wanted to do something that represents something about myself. The way I did this was by writing an S on a mirror with red lipstick and I kissed the mirror as well while having lipstick on and writing xoxo on the mirror as well.

3) The most challenging part of my project was when I was taking the pictures because I was not liking how they where coming out so I was getting frustrated because even though some people said they looked nice I didn't feel like it was representing me and that was a theme that I was trying to maintain through out the project.

4) Yes I am satisfied with my final piece because I feel like I did a good job representing myself and that was one of my main goals through out this project. I did not just want to have choose a random letter and a random concept that means nothing to who I am and I think I was able to achieve this goal. I even had one of my friends tell me "Wow Scarlet this is so like you".
5) If I could change something about my design I would change the fact that it's a bit plain to me so I would try to make it less plain but i was aiming for a kind of sexy theme so I feel like the colors I choose where appropriate because if it was colorful I don't think it would show that theme.

  1. I really like how you used the lipstick in your piece rather than drawing it. It made your piece really interesting and relatable

  2. I like how your project was different in the sense of material. I liked that your material was mainly the use of a camera and I think that made your project unique and original. If you could do the project again would you try actually drawing this image instead of using a camera and how do you think the interpretation would be different to the viewer? Really amazing project though!
